In it there are lovely illustrations and directions for a variety of cables. I had never attempted cables and I had a new nephew due in May. I thought, 'PERFECT PROJECT!' a baby afghan shouldn't take THAT long, right? WRONG! It's mid-August. My nephew was born mid-May. The thing STILL isn't done. Jesus Christ. So here's the low down on the downlow.

Eight strips each with a single repeating cable pattern, approximately 56" long. I went out and bought some Caron in ultra-bright colors. So pretty when combined. I started out with the simplest. Easy peasy, lemon squeasy. 'Cables are the bomb, yo', I thought foolishly. So I start with cable 6. Yup, nice and quick. I move on to cable 2 since it was the same color. Snap! It's done. Cable 4 comes next. BAM! then comes cable 8...uh. this does NOT look right. After 3 attempts I frog the fucker and move on to 1. Yup that shit gets knocked out quicklike. I'm now muddling my way through 3. *sigh* Fucking PITA. Anyway here's the color scheme:

1 - orange - DONE
2 - red - DONE
3 - green - in progress
4 - purple - DONE (looks blue in the pics)
5 - blue - uh. right. I'll get to it. (yarn looks turquoise in the pics)
6 - red - DONE
7 - yellow - that's next on my list
8 - purple - this one will be last, or maybe that confusing blue one
Lurvely colors, yes?
I'll keep you posted as to how it's coming... if it doesn't get put away until hell freezes over.

Kidlet's Fashion Sense

Here's an example of my daughter's fashion sense. I crochetted the flowers and leaves and had to go back later and tack them back down. She never wears them but they're good practice.

I've been out of it a bit lately but I managed to win a couple of Ebay auctions for knitting needles. I officially have a shitload of needles now. I am currently waiting for a 3rd auction to arrive. I'll leave it a mystery until then.

WIP: I'm working on a second cat bed right now since the first one is being fought over. Then I'm headed to work on socks and a lace scarf out of the Alpaca Misti I got off of my friend cocoon. I plan on adding some sparkly glass beads on the fringe when it's done. After that it's back to the peacock shawl I've frogged and decided to do in a wave and shell.

The kidlet's sweater went to hell and back and I ended up chopping the thing to bits in a pique of fury because I now know I HATE HOMESPUN! After viewing just about everything on Cafe Press I decided to make my own rather than paying $15 for one.

I picked up a plain canvas bag at the Wally Mart for <$2 and a sheaf of iron on transfers. Then I sat down to design the logo. And this was the result. I'm currently considering putting some wording like: Bad-Ass Knitter or Knit Happens above it. My friend, and fellow knitter - Kephy, suggested that the logo speaks for itself. I'll give it another day to percolate and I'll make my descision.

Mmmmore SEX

Ok, that horrible dark splotchy thing is a sweater I'm knitting up for the Kidlet. It's icky Lion Brand Homespun but the purple was so pretty I couldn't pass it up. Besides I needed chunky yarn (NOT SUPER CHUNKY like the pattern calls for!)
The second blobs are some yarn I picked up at my "local" yarn store. Some yummy purple highland wool for housesocks for myself. (Like I'll ever get around to knitting for myself.) and a couple of poofballs of some Acrylic/Wool/Mohair blend. I dunno what the colors are called but they were a good buy and I'm a stash pig.
The third image is some recently acquired tools. Including a Clover Yarn Cutter Pendant (which I strung on some lavendar ribbon and I haven't taken off since), some poufball makers, stitch holders, metal tapestry needles and the CUTEST black sheep tape measure. I wub him. I shall name him George. I shall hug him and squeeze him and stroke his fur backwards, George. Also I got a plain ol' tackle box to put my tools in so they don't get scattered.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Catbed Revisited

SUCCESS! Instead of sewing the edges twice I sewed them all together once. I also stuffed the edges with plastic grocery store bags to give them some strength and to make a nice crackly sound.

After a liberal sprinkling of catnip (alas, I had no liquid spray), each kitty took turns sniffing the bed and attempting to scratch the herbs out of the fluffy fur. Schroder, as you can see in the pic, decided to kind of lay in it. Spaz, once she realized that she couldn't eat the nip, decided she didn't give a flying fuck and eschewed the bed entirely. Feh. I've put their toys in it for now, perhaps I'll catch them in it later when the Kidlet is not torturing them.

A Knitter's Prayer

Our yarn which art our heaven, worsted be they weight.
Our knitting's fun, Thy stitches done by knit and also by purl.
Give us this day our daily thread.
And forgive us our drop'd stitches, as we forgive those that pester us for hats.
And lead us not into crochetting, but deliver us from tangles. Yay me! I used some cheapo Red Heart that I had lying in my stash for practice. It took me about a day per sock. Which is not bad, I guess, since I had to figure out the pattern. I also learned the ssk stitch. Woo!

I dunno if you can tell but these are Kidlet's feet. I made the socks for her. It's a nice basketweave pattern on the leg. I have another ball of cheapo Red Heart in a pretty pastel out of which I'm going to make another practice pair. But I don't think it's gonna be the basketweave again. Maybe I'll attempt cables.

SEX!

My wonderful husband took me for SEX* the other day. I found a knitting store in Marietta, Ga called The Purly Gates (cute, huh?). So we took a drive over to acquire "real yarn". Eg. not synthetic.

Anyway, I'm planning on making some socks for previously mentioned husband with the greenish yarn at the top. The pink and purple skeins are for socks for kidlet. And the cream and blue are for socks for my FIL. He and MIL recently moved to Wisconsin where it's assraping cold. He doesn't like the cold so I decided to make him socks. Which led to making socks for DH and Kidlet.

All of the yarn I purchased was 100% wool. And holy crap is it expensive! $6 a skein and the Technicolor Yawn stuff was $7.50 a piece! That makes an adult pair of socks $12. Fuck. I'm a cheap bitch so I think for unimportant stuff (see: not a gift) I'll stick to Red Heart that's $2-4 a skein. Which reminds me! Micheal's is having a yarn sale...

*SEX == Stash Enriching eXperience

Mizzy's Hat

Ok so I promised piccys of Miz in her hat and here they are. I'm calling it my Peacock Shawl.
I caught this Moda Dae fluffy nylon shit on sale after Xmas at Michaels. I'd previously made a scarf for a friend out of the same yarn (different color). I reeeally loved the yarn. It's sooo soft. I figured it'd make a nice shawl. I ended up with 12 skeins of it. There are some beautiful colors in the yarn ranging from pale green to purple. Hence the name Peacock.
I'm doing a simple rectangular shape it should be about 30 inches wide and I'm unsure how long it will end up, preferably around 5 feet. I'll probably add a long fringe to the short edges. I can get $30 each for Jayne Cobb hats on Ebay!

Anyway, so after making another Jayne Cobb hat in the traditional style, I decided to use the leftovers to create something different and this is what my needles vomitted out. It follows the same pattern but with different color placement. And Miz doesn't like earflaps or pouf balls so I left the flaps off and decided on a tassle instead. I think she's in lurve. The hat goes in the mail tomorrow. Miz promises us pics of her wearing it. I'm holding her to it. She's a hottie, too. Muggy is strange and asked me to make her a Jayne Cobb hat. I complied. (She's seriously mean and will kick my ass.) After a bit of trial and error I came up with the mess in the middle picture. Nothing like what it's supposed to be. Feh. So I went and found a pattern onna web, doubled up the yarn and used my nifty new circular needles my dearest husband got me for Christmas. It came out pretty good.

Even TheChisa, who is a profound non-hat personage, likes to wear it.

Anyway, Muggy took these pics for posterity or posterior, considering the third one.
